Air Filters -vs- Air Purifiers
Most home heating systems are designed to have an air filter (furnace filter). These slide-in filters amount to a whole house air filtration system, but not an air purifier.
They operate by pulling your home’s existing air through a network of air duct returns. The air is then pulled through the furnace filter which, depending on the type of filter, will reduce dander, pet hair, air borne particulates, dust, and other larger particles.
In contrast, an air purifying system, sometimes called an air cleaner system, purifies the air using needle-point bi-polar ionization which creates equal amounts of positive and negative ions. When these ions come in contact with viruses, bacteria, or mold they remove the hydrogen molecules. Once the hydrogen is removed, these pathogens have no source of energy and will die.
