When to Call a Ductless Air Conditioner
Repair Service Professional

If you observe unusual signs, odors, sounds, or other behavior from your heat pump, then your system could be trying to tell you that it is malfunctioning. If you are experiencing the following signs & symptoms of a problem, you will want to call one of our ductless repair service technicians at 412-787-1341 to diagnose and resolve the malfunction.

Signs & Symptoms of a Broken Ductless AC System

CAUSE: The defrost cycle on your ductless mini-split should prevent ice formation, but if it is not, then it is possible there is an issue with the defrost cycle. More often, frozen refrigerant coils on a ductless HVAC system occur when it has a low level of refrigerant. Your mini split heat pump could be leaking refrigerant due to wear and tear over time or from extended periods of use. A ductless mini split professional will need to conduct an evaluation of your ductless system to resolve this. They will seal and repair the leak for you, and then recharge your ductless mini split heater with refrigerant which will restore it back to normal heating capability.

CAUSE: Ductless heaters are designed to be exceedingly quiet when they are working properly. If your mini split heat pump is making abnormal noises, it is likely there is an issue happening that will need to be addressed as soon as you notice it. A grinding noise coming from an indoor unit could mean you have a bent fan blade or another mechanical issue. Other noises that are signs of system distress are loud squealing, screeching, clanking, banging, thumping, humming, and rattling sounds. Any one of these issues will require a service call from a professional ductless heat repairman at 412-787-1341 to locate and fix the issue.

CAUSE: If your ductless furnace is emitting a foul odor, such as a wet sock smell, that is a clear sign that something bad is happening from the inside of your ductless mini split heater. Often what the unpleasant odor is caused by is mold, mildew, and dirt that has accumulated inside of your ductless heating system. This happens when you have a clogged drain pan and coils. Another sign you may notice is a wet spot around your ductless mini split. You can try cleaning your air filter to reduce the odor. But the best course of action to eliminate the source of the odor and eliminate the issue from happening again is by having one of our ductless heating industry professionals come and give your ductless mini split a thorough cleaning and repair.
